GRUMA, S.A.B. de C.V., is one of the world's leading tortilla and corn flour producers. GRUMA was founded in 1949 and is engaged primarily in the production of corn flour and tortillas. With leading brands in most of its markets, GRUMA has operations in the United States, Mexico, Central America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. GRUMA is headquartered in San Pedro Garza García, Mexico, and has approximately 20,000 employees and 74 plants. In 2016, GRUMA had net sales of US$3.6 billion, of which 75% came from non-Mexican operations.
In the United States, GRUMA is one of the leading corn flour and tortilla producers, serving industrial, retail, and foodservice customers. Its tortilla business operates 20 plants producing tortillas, tortilla chips, and other related products and the main brands include Mission®, Guerrero® and Calidad®. Through its corn flour business, GRUMA operates six plants and the main brand is Maseca®.
GIMSA is Mexico's leading corn flour manufacturer. It is principally engaged in the production, distribution, and sale of corn flour under the Maseca® brand and has 18 plants throughout the country with which it serves mainly industrial, retail, and wholesale corn flour customers. GIMSA also owns one plant that makes corn grits.
Mission Mexico is a producer of corn flour tortillas, wheat flour tortillas, and tortilla chips that serves retail customers through two plants and distribution centers located principally in northern Mexico, although it also serves the rest of the country. Its signature tortilla brand is Mission®.
In Europe, GRUMA operates six plants (two in the United Kingdom, two in Spain, one in the Neatherlands and one in Russia), producing tortillas, tortilla chips and several types of flatbreads such as pitta, naan, chapati, and piadinas. Its main brand is Mission®. GRUMA has three corn milling plants in Europe located in Italy, Ukraine and Turkey.
With 10 plants located throughout Central America, Gruma Centroamérica serves industrial and retail customers in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. Gruma Centroamérica manufactures corn flour and, to a lesser extent, tortillas and snacks. Gruma Centroamérica also cultivates hearts of palm and processes rice. Its signature brands include Maseca® corn flour, TortiRicas® and Mission® tortillas, and Tosty® for snacks.
The Asia-Oceania division produces and distributes wheat flour tortilla, corn flour tortilla, snacks, and other types of flatbreads such as pitta, chapatti, naan and pizza bases. With 3 plants located in China, Malaysia, and Australia, its main brand is Mission®.
Research and Development
Through 2 plants, GRUMA's technology division conducts proprietary technological research and development for corn milling and tortilla production, and supervises all engineering, design and plant construction. In addition, the technology division provides advisory services and training to employees of our corn flour and tortilla manufacturing facilities. This division manufactures equipment for corn flour and tortilla production for our own plants and sells tortilla machinery for low-volume production to third parties.
