“In all our worldwide operations, we maintain our commitment to ensuring the permanent supply of our products.”.
Mexico City, April 27, 2020.- “Gruma has strengthened the meaning of Social Commitment and we are moving towards new horizons that go beyond philanthropy. We have reached out to the communities that are the most in need and we stand behind our commitment to Mexico and the world. Whenever there is a contingency or natural disaster, we will be there to help,” said Juan González Moreno, Gruma President and CEO.
At Gruma we designed a Global Support Strategy and a Covid-19 security protocol that is implemented worldwide in all our operations, based on the best practices and regulations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States, and the requirements established by the health authorities of each of the countries in which we do business and distribute our products, allowing us to successfully deal with the sanitary and economic emergency caused by COVID-19 or Coronavirus.
In Mexico, we agreed that we would not raise the price of Maseca products and our action plan allowed us to ensure the production and supply of corn flour during the contingency, while also reinforcing our industrial safety and hygiene measures, in addition to safeguarding the health of our employees and guaranteeing the quality and food safety standards of our products and processes.
We donated Maseca to health care centers, hospitals, foundations, food banks, and government programs, among other supporting channels. We implemented the Maseca House-to-House National Support Distribution Program in the Mexican communities that need it the most.
Our commercial Men-Truck force traveled 337 routes across Mexico bearing 1,000 kilos of Maseca each, which is enough to make 600,000 kilos of tortillas, to help more than 300,000 families living in marginalized areas in Mexico who were very happy to receive this support.
In the United States, we have donated Maseca and Mission products worth 1.5 million dollars, translated into more than 40 million tortillas to benefit:
In Central America, we have also donated significant amounts of Maseca, as well as Mission and TortiRicas products, in addition to taking food to workers and volunteers at the Center Providing Specialized Care for COVID-19 Patients and other organizations.
Product donations in that region have benefited more than 75,000 low-income families affected by COVID-19. Close to 70,000 kilos have been delivered, primarily Maseca products valued at USD 43,000.
In Asia and Oceania, we maintain our commitment to ensuring the permanent supply of our food products.
In Europe, in addition to ensuring our food supplies, we joined the Food4Heroes initiative, a platform created to minimize the COVID-19 impact on the most vulnerable communities, to distribute Mission products in mail trucks to hospitals, during the lunch and dinner shifts for all health care personnel.
Also, through the Monterrey Group, Gruma donated MXN 4.6 million to the Government of Nuevo León, Mexico to purchase hospital equipment to attend COVID-19 patients, support people who earn less than MXN 10,000 per month, who have lost their jobs due to the contingency, and to contract specialized consulting services to prepare the state to provide an effective response to the pandemic.
