““Once again Gruma contributes our little grain of sand to support the population affected by the earthquake. This is why we will remain in Oaxaca distributing warm tortillas until the emergency is over,” stressed Juan González Moreno, President and CEO of Gruma.”.
Juchitán, Oaxaca, 19 September 2017. In an effort to stand by and aid the population in Oaxaca that suffered damages from the 8.2 Richter scale earthquake of last September 7th, Gruma sent itstortimóvilesto immediately produce warm tortillas for the shelters established by the authorities, and for any other people who require them. Gruma estimates that more than 200-thousand tortillas will be produced during the emergency.
It should be noted that each Gruma tortimóvil can produce up to 36-thousand warm tortillas every day for immediate and free distribution. These vehicles produce tortillas automatically as they are equipped with a power generator, gas, water, Maseca corn flour, wrapping paper and insulated boxes to keep tortillas warm.
The company additionally donated 22 tons of Maseca corn flour, in one-kilo packages to be included with other aid provided to the victims of the earthquake.
Gruma has also assured Diconsa, the state DIF (acronym in Spanish for Integral Family Development), and its clients in the state that it will regularly supply corn flour to cover their respective needs, and in this way avoid out-of-stocks in raw materials used to produce tortillas and other corn-based foods.
“Once again Gruma contributes our little grain of sand to support the population affected by the earthquake. This is why we will remain in Oaxaca distributing warm tortillas until the emergency is over,” stressed Juan González Moreno, President and CEO of Gruma.
Gruma executives remain in permanent communication and coordination with local and federal authorities to continue aiding victims for as long as it takes.
