The birth of a colossus
The first year of a new decade lapsed; 1930 finally offered a different panorama to our country to that of the first twenty years of the century, a time marked by revolutionary upheavals and political and economic chaos. Although cracks of revolutionary revolts still subsisted at that time, common people began to think again in the medium and long-term planning, recapturing their life projects in a country that wanted to re-organize itself and grow.
Maseca: A 5,000-year technological leap
When the world was more worried about reaching the moon than revolutionizing the food industry, MASECA group decided to take the first steps towards the achievement of a technological leap that would represent a total transformation of a process, which had remained almost intact in hundreds of years.
Maseca was born in Cerralvo …
Located in the northeast of Nuevo León, with a surface of 880 km2, the City of Cerralvo is the birthplace of MASECA and also of the state, because according to the local columnist Mr. Leonardo Contreras López, Spaniards arrived for the first time 417 years ago to found what would be called the New Kingdom of León, where El Sabinal park is actually located.
Technology, key factor of the success of GRUMA.
In the middle of the 70’s, the degree of development of GRUMA operations in Mexico allowed the idea of extending operations beyond our frontiers because, among other things, the rigorous subsidy policy that controlled in that time corn and tortilla industry represented a serious obstacle for growth; a growth that also was practically impossible to stop at those days.
After operations in Costa Rica ...
1971 posed great challenges for GRUMA. Undoubtedly, one of the most remarkable was that of internationalization; in those days the Group had already developed an important industry through the transformation of corn into flour. Likewise, it had an important technological and administrative knowledge that allowed for the idea of new horizons, beyond Mexican frontiers.
